COLOR INTENSIVE

The workshop addresses:  how to discover the full range of color from your own palette of preferred colors, how to see color better and how to use color more effectively in a painting. Still life exercises provide an opportunity to practice what is learned. An additional goal is to help each student establish a core palette for them to use .Class size is limited to 12 to maximize individual help.

 

TAKING YOUR WORK TO THE NEXT LEVEL

NOV 9-11, 2020  /  $525 /  ON TRACK STUDIOS  / FRANKLIN, TN

Artists who are interested in improving their work often get stalled in their progress and just need a kick-start to get back on the path for excellence. This workshop is a chance to take a good honest look at your current work and consider what exactly needs improvement. The class will be divided Into three parts: identification of the one area that most needs improvement, individualized exercises to address the problem, studio painting to put new ideas in to practice. Six weeks of online mentoring is included with the class to maximize the class work. Class size is limited to 12 to maximize individual help.

DESIGNING THE LANDSCAPE

SEPTEMBER 14-18  /  $1400 /  FORT LEWIS LODGE  / MILLBORO,  VA

Spend time unlocking your natural design skills in this workshop retreat. You will have the opportunity to focus completely on painting landscape. Three meals a day at the historic Fort Lewis Lodge are included. There will be time for independent plein air painting as well as many hours of instruction. Class size will be between 10 and 14. The workshop is planned as a total immersion experience. The day will start early and go into evening. Class begins on Sept. 14 with dinner at the Lodge followed by an introduction to the class. Price includes single occupancy lodging and meals.

 

STUDIO WORKS FROM PHOTOGRAPHS

OCTOBER 6-8, 2020 / THE CENTERPIECE GALLERY /RALEIGH,  NC

The emphasis in this class is learning how to use the photograph as something to “refer to” in the process of creating a painting. Students will bring their own original reference photographs, either print or digital. Subject matter can be people, landscape, interior or anything else. Class instruction will include lecture, power point presentations and demos as well as easel to easel instruction. My goal is to help students transform reference material into completed paintings that reflect their personal point of view as an artist.  A full color booklet of notes and six weeks of on-line instruction are included with the class.

 

USING PHOTOGRAPHS IN A MORE CREATIVE WAY

NOVEMBER 2-5,2020 / COURSIN STUDIO / PONTOTOC, MS

PAINTING THE WESTERN COSTUMED FIGURE

SEPTEMBER 8-10, 2021 / BOOTH MUSEUM / CARTERSVILLE, GA

Paint models dressed in Western gear, in a variety of settings and poses that change daily. In this workshop you will receive instruction on drawing, design, value, color and edges. While the subject will the the costumed model, the knowledge offered will be of benefit in painting any subject matter.  The workshop consists of power point lecture, demo and individual instruction at the easel.  A six week online mentorship and booklet of notes are included with this class.
